Things that are going to stand out this year…
Camera
In 2018, we are at a point where there is only so much that can be done or innovated in a smartphone. So the area in which the smartphone makers have a vast scope of improvements is the Camera. All rumors and pieces of evidence point towards Samsung having an exceptional camera. It has a f/1.4 variable aperture of f/2.4 which is its lowest ever (Galaxy Note 8 had f/1.7). Lower the number would mean more light is allowed inside into the lens while taking a picture. The direct positive consequence would be good low light shots.
Face and Iris scanner
Apple made a huge leap forward when it completely ditched the touch id and introduced FaceID. Neither of the companies has managed to put the fingerprint readers under the screen. Samsung while it might not take the crazy approach of emitting IR dots to map your face to unlock the screen like iPhone X, Samsung can certainly use both the front camera and the iris scanner to mix and achieve a decent face unlock feature.
Thankfully still there…
Headphone jack
There is a multitude of manufacturers who are dropping their headphone jacks, Samsung is sticking to its guns and even providing earphones tuned by AKG right out of the box. Kudos to you Samsung.
Conclusion
Irrespective of what the features are, Samsung has attained a level of respect and trust in the market that it people will line for their line of phones. While the scars of exploding Note 7 remain, it remains to be seen as to how they will approach the battery issue this year. Samsung, push the envelope a little a little forward.
